Efficacy of Unani Combination Therapy in the Management of Acne Vulgaris: A Randomised Standard Controlled Study

Acne vulgaris is one of the common chronic inflammatory diseases pilosebaceous unit with multiple pathophysiologies affecting adolescents mainly. Aims: To evaluate efficacy Shahtra (Fumaria indica) orally along topical use Zimad Muhasain and management moderate to severe category acne on Global Grading System (GAGS) scale. Material & Methods: This was a randomized standard control clinical study. The test group patients were given ( 500 mg), 2 capsules twice daily local application Muhasa paste once daily; tablet Azithromycin mg thrice weekly Benzoyl peroxide 5% gel for 8 weeks. Result: In group, there 77.3% reduction in GAGS score at final follow-up p<0.0001; 69.8% p<0.0001, showing extremely significant improvement both groups. results indicate superiority regimen over by least 7%. Furthermore, adverse effects like burning sensation, dryness, itching due diarrhoea only reported whereas Unani formulations found be free such effects. Conclusion: comprising dried aqueous extract more effective safe acne, compared combination gel.
